My name is Maggie Asselstine, and I am the founder of White Cedar Healing, a therapeutic practice grounded in compassion, critical self-reflexivity, and community care. For nearly two decades, I have worked alongside diverse communities within social services, mental health and addictions, trauma-informed practice, and post-secondary education, supporting individuals, families, and systems through dignity-centred healing.
I honour my Irish and Scottish ancestry while also acknowledging my family’s long-standing ties to the Deseronto area, and stories within my family of being Mohawk. I grew up urban and did not receive cultural teachings from my family,
Although I do not live in community nor identify solely as Indigenous, I hold deep respect for the relationships and teachings, generosity shared with me by knowledge holders, Elders, and community members. These teachings inform my work in a good way through culturally-aware, land-connected, and relational practices that support healing, self-determination, and collective wellbeing.
At White Cedar Healing, my approach blends professional training (Bachelor Of Social Work), lived experience, and culturally-informed perspectives to create spaces of safety, dignity, accountability, and growth.
